In Turun ammatti-instituutti you can qualify in several professions in fields of trade and hospitality services, technology, health and well-being. You can select from more than 20 basic qualifications, e.g. car mechanic, practical nurse, hotel receptionist, restaurant cook or, maybe, a builder. It is also possible to study high school subjects together with your vocational studies, and thus take two certificates (vocational qualification and matriculation examination).

Getting vocational basic qualification takes three years.

If one cannot get a ”normal” place to study, e.g. because of language problems or recent arrival in Finland, can your school offer something else to a student like this?
In Aninkaistenmäki building we arrange education for immigrants, preparing them for vocational basic education. There is place for 60 starters. Those applying for education will be called to an entrance examination. This education is not a part of the joint application system. Education aims at improving the student’s possibilities in starting vocational studies. During the education they study Finnish, mathematical and social subjects, and learn about different professions.

Those who have finished basic studies can also apply for a 20 to 40 study weeks long additional training, that is called ”Ammattistartti”. For this Professional Start one must apply during the Start’s own period of application on a special form. During Professional Start students can rise their basic education grades. Different professions are introduced to the students during education.

In addition to this, Turun ammatti-instituutti also has ”Ammattivalmennus” (Professional Training), education that lasts one year. It is aimed at young people, who have finished basic education, and who need help in their life control skills. During the training students get familiar with different training fields and practice skills needed at school and in work. Training has it’s own period of application and a special application form.

If you did not manage to get a study place through the joint application system, don’t forget the after-application. Vocational training places with no students are filled only when the training starts.
