The Institute is a school for grown-ups. Students must have either finished basic
education or no less than 17 years of age.

Entrance requirements: For additional education, i.e. 10th grade can apply a person, who wants to improve his/her grades and improve his/her qualities for further studies, and he/she has gotten basic education certificate from a Finnish peruskoulu the same or the previous year. If necessary, you can include statements to your application.
On vocational lines entrance requirements depend on the training offered, and it pays to check these requirements on e.g. Institute’s home page or at the Institute.

Application for additional education i.e. 10th grade and language-support-ten: no later than 20.3.2008 with Institute’s own application form (from the Internet or by ordering from the Institute).

Application for basic education is by 20.3.2008 with Institute’s own application form (from the Internet or by ordering from the Institute). For non-Finnish speakers there will be a language test after the application time ends.

Application for immigrant’s language training is done directly in the Institute in the spring and the language test will be arranged in June.
Application for vocational basic qualifications varies, depending on the field. Check the home pages of the Institute or directly in the Institute. Applications for vocational qualifications directly to the Institute in accordance with schedules of each educational line.

What kind of studies are available for students in your school (=qualifying for what)?
Basic education certificate, additional education i.e. 10th grade: fulfilling additional education requirements. Basic qualifications child and family worker, you will become a children’s instructor and you will be qualified to work as a children’s instructor in congregations or in a day care centre. Basic education certificate for instructing in sign language, you will be qualified to work as an instructor, who is able to work with the deaf or speech impaired using sign language. Further vocational qualification or specialist vocational qualification as special needs assistant at school. Further vocational qualification for instructor in morning and afternoon activities for school age children. Web Designer education (further vocational qualification in audiovisual media). Further vocational qualification for verger.

Basic education and additional education i.e. 10th grade last one school year, basic educations take three years, Further vocational qualifications, depending on individual plan appr. 1 to 1.5 years.

Will students, who are non-Finnish speakers have a possibility to get support in their studies?  What kind?
Additional education’s language-support-ten: courses offering the students additional lessons, remedial teaching and guidance in reading and writing, if they have difficulties in reading or writing foreign languages. In ordinary additional education there is one additional course of s2-studies, which will support in Finnish needed in school work and in drafting written assignments.

If one cannot get a ”normal” place to study, e.g. because of language problems or recent arrival in Finland, can your school offer something else to a student like this?
A student, who has finished his/her basic studies can rise his/her grades in additional studies i.e. 10th grade and/or get rid of problems in studying foreign languages on language-support-ten. Remedial lessons will also benefit you, if you don’t yet have clear plans for further studies or if the student wants to improve his/her readiness for further studies after basic education. Institute offers a wide variety of Finnish studies in different levels of skills.
